Never delete a chapter!

Are you using fanfiction.net or fictionpress.net to publish your works? Well, if you are then let me give you a little tips from personal experience.

Lately I’ve been taking all my old stories and getting them beta’ed to improve your reader experience. One of the stories I did a lot of work on was “Ninjaenes forundelige kjærlighetsbånd“. Earlier this one was consisted only of one chapter with all parts, but in the beta process I managed to make my 14 parts into 4 chapters.

Here is where I made my mistake: Instead of just exporting the chapter and edit it almost from scratch in the doc manager, I just uploaded it as new docs and just removed the existing chapter  from the story manager.

Not a good idea…

Well, I guess it could have been worse, I mean, it wasn’t the end of the world or anything, but when I deleted that chapter, all that had happened to that chapter disappeared. All the comments, the followers, the favorites, and even the views disappeared. So, yeah, it’s was kinda like starting from scratch again…

Fortunately it wasn’t a really popular story, so the views weren’t that many, but I still miss those 220 views it had – and I’ve chosen to always add that number to my “total views count”.

Anyway, I hope this might help you in some way and make sure you don’t make the same mistake that I did.

Sketches as help for my stories

Hey you guys! The other day I received a comment on one of my stories telling me that they had a hard time keeping track of the character’s movement and their surroundings. At first I was a little puzzled, but then I had to admit that I probably was blind to see things like that – cause I have the houses and such plotted out in my head.

Anyway, I thought a lot about it and figured out that I could try to make it more visual for you by actually making some house plans. I know that as an author I shouldn’t have to do it – my writing should be able to give you all you need, but I guess I’m just not there yet.

So, how will they look like? Well, I did a simple sketch of Matsuri’s house in my “In between the lines” story to give you a little taste:

Matsuri's house

I hope you understand most of it – and the blue things are windows btw. I know it’s kinda simple, but I chose not to go all out and make it in sims or in a design program – mostly because it would take a lot more time, but also because I just want it to be a help to the story – and not an important or necessary part of it.

Well, I guess that was all that was on my heart – for now that is. What do you think? Do you think this can help you understand my stories better? Would you like me to continue making these? And is there any special place from a story that you would like a sketch of?

So, yeah, thank you for pointing it out to me – and as I always say: Don’t be afraid to tell me about such things, cause if you don’t, how am I supposed to better myself and make it better for you readers. Got anything to  say? SPIT IT OUT!

PROJECT UPDATE – JUNE 2014

update

The last Monday of each month I’ll tell you guys my plans for the next month. This will include what I’m going to publish, what I’m going to work on, and special occasions – as writing days and such. I will however not write about the reviews and quizzes that will come.

Publications:

These are stories that are going to be published in June. Be sure to read them – They will be published on Sundays.

“Burning” – Chapter 8:
So yeah, I’ve kinda gotten into a rhythm when it comes to “Burning”. Every first Sunday of every second month I publish a new chapter. This time most of the chapter is going to be focused around Orihime and her view on the events.

“The Girl With The Ribbon” – Chapter 2:
A new chapter of my “Harry Potter” story. Chapter two continues where the first one left off. Melissa will get to Hogwarts and she’ll be taken to the castle and the welcome ceremony.

“In between the lines”  Part 2:
The second part will continue where the first one left off, and this one has more action in it.

“Moon Witches” – Chapter 1
My first original story in a while. It’s a witch story, so you better expect some magic and witch circles. The story is set to our time, so I guess you can say that the story is the typical one.

“De tolv helikoptere” – OneShot
I found this with my old stuff. It’s in Norwegian, and is based on an old and rather old fairy tail. The background for this story is a homework where we were to modernize an old story. It might be a little stupid, but I still kinda like it. I originally planned for it to be published in May, but I realized that I wanted to work on i a little first.

In progress:

Stories I’m planning to work on so that they can be published later:

“Tainted Love” – Chapter 3:
.The story continues, and this time the chapter is waaaay longer than the two previous ones.

“Daddy’s Devilish Diary” – OneShot
This is a story I’m writing on together with my good friend and college Pixie. It’s about Alice from “The Last Apprentice”, and I guess you can say it’s kinda dark. Rated M for more than one reason.

“In between the lines”  Part 3:
The third and last part of the story. Well, I don’t know what else to tell you than that the story reaches it’s end, and that it’s kinda sweet and funny.

Naruto – In between the lines – Chapter 1

Language Genre Rated
English Romance / Friendship K

A new little story. Originally it was meant to be a oneshot, but when translating it I also wrote it better and a “little” longer. So yeah, it’s divided in three parts. Here’s the first part – I really hope you like it.

The story is about Matsuri. It’s been some time since Gaara was made Kazekage, and by taking on the responsibility he had less and less time for his student. Matsuri goes down memory lane and have to admit that she really misses having him around. She can of cause see him – but only in official business. That’s why she get’s so wary when receiving a very official looking message from his office…

Big changes for the publishing of my GaaMatsu

Hey you guys!

I just wanted to give you an explanation before I publish this weeks story. Why? Well, because I kinda told you something but then all changed and a lot happened even after that.

So, you know the story that is scheduled for this Sunday – the GaaMatsu one without a name? Well, first off I want to inform you that it’s been given a name – more than one actually. First it was called “What was unsaid”, but then my beta betaread it, and we decided to change it to “What was left unsaid”. This thing it that when I read trough it now, a much better title came to me: “In between the lines“. So, yeah, that’s the name of it from now on.

Also, the story was supposed to be a oneshot, but the thing is that when I translated it from Norwegian to English, it grew – monster style too! The whole original story was of 900 words, while I managed to translate the first 300 words into 1.300. So yeah, it quite a bit longer. Because of this – and also because I’m not quite finished with all of it, I’v decided to divide it into 3 chapters.

Well, I hope you don’t mind it too much – and remember that it’s a lot better now that I’ve worked with it instead of just simply translating it.

I would of course love getting feedback on the first chapter when being published tomorrow.

6 years of Fanfiction

Category - Writers Word

I really can’t believe what I saw the other day when logging into my Quizilla account. It was only by coincidence that I saw it… I was checking my profile information – stating that I am 15 years, and then I saw it: my date of registration was the 22th of May 2008! This mean that today it’s my SIX years anniversary!

That fact is kinda dull and plain by it’s own, but the reason why I joined Quizilla was because I had just begun reading fanfiction – and stupid me only knew of this site to do so. So yeah, I joined this community of quizzes and stories because of the stories I loved to read and also to become a part of it myself.

quizilla[1]

So there you have it. If it hadn’t been for Quizilla, I probably wouldn’t have started writing fanfics.

Even though Qz kinda was the birth of my writing – and some of my stories are still there, I decided to start using ff.net instead – which you can see if you follow the links to my stories.

I can’t believe it’s been six years already – and I kinda can’t say that I’ve produced enough to make me a productive writer… Oh well, let’s just hope for that to change in the future^^
